La Linea Interdisciplinario is a collective of six women writers and artists traversing the US/Mexico borderlandia. We promote the work of women artists in Tijuana and San Diego through public readings, performances, art exhibitions and the publication of a journal by the same name: ‘La Linea’. As an international group from Mexico and the U.S., we always confront the clash of meanings and values between the first and third world. We feel that by considering positions of power across international borders we reveal the interconnectedness of issues of race, class, gender, and sexuality. We employ these dynamic questions in our interventions across geography and translation.
Recent projects include: Las Calcas/CautionTape (2006) Tijuana/San Ysidro, poetry action, video and publication; La Barbona/The Bearded Lady (2005) Madrid, Spain performance + video; Transfemme (2003) San Diego, CA photo series; Las Poemales/Poems to go with CalTranzit (2004) poetry action; ‘La Linea’ (2003 - present) bilingual journal of women’s writing and art.
Current members: Amaranta Caballero Prado poet and graphic designer; Abril Castro, poet, photographer and curator; Lorena Mancilla writer and ??; Jenny Donovan, poet + installation artist; Margarita Valencia Triana poet, philosopher + performance artist; kara lynch video/sound + performance artist + writer.
